Very provocative! I use the Beethoven and similar examples when I do training for pro-life reasoning. That makes people think more about what is really happening with abortions. I hadn’t seen the other examples.

  2. Bones says:

Wow, that government stat is something else! And now a new reason for why I’m inherently terrified of career politicians…

  3. Hitler wasn’t really a decorated war hero. He was gassed before he could do anything major.

    Still very interesting though.

  4. A great post. Thank you!
BTW Hitler did win the IC 1st Class.

  5. Gorilla Guys says:

this brought to mind a movie from the ’90s called The Last Supper.
In that same “be careful what you wish for” vein as far as the world leaders go…
    excellent post.

  6. Ham says:

Where did you pull your stats? I’d like to pass them on to some friends.

  7. chiggers says:

Not sure that one circumstance can speak for all circumstances on abortion….

And Neil, what exactly IS happening eith abortions?

  8. madmouser says:

I think it is just another example of how awful abortion really is. The world would really miss not being able to listen to Beethoven for example. Who knows how many brilliant minds have been killed, or if the person who could’ve cured cancer was aborted. We’ll never know. Be that as it may, it is still only one of hundreds of reasons not to abort.

How about the fact that God entrusted us to care for His little, precious children, but we decided to kill them. I don’t think God is too happy with us and I do not blame him.

  9. The Dude says:

    great post……

  10. mpinkeyes says:

This is an unbelievably good post

  11. chiggers says:

Well all in all it’s a bad question. You should never recommend to someone to have an abortion. Abortion is a personal choice. Maybe the question should read, “should she decide to have an abortion?” You know, just to be pc 😉

And what about people who don’t believe in this “God”? Are their views taken into account? And what about the reasons when we should abort?

I find it difficult to believe that abortion is awful. 40% of American women have had an abortion by the time they reach the age of 20. Is this “God” unhappy with them all?

  12. madmouser says:

chiggers, I hate to tell you this, but I am not ‘pc’. Never was and never will be and I’ll tell you why. It is fake, it hides people’s true feelings and it is used to manipulate or take advantage of. Those are the main reasons for me, but to get back to the abortion issue for a minute.
What are the reasons we should abort? I didn’t know there were any, please enlighten me.

Try this little experiment, replace the word abortion with the word murder, and then tell me if you still believe it is not awful.

There were over one million murders in the United States this year committed by women of various ages and ethnic backgrounds. This has become an epidemic. The murder rate is expected to rise in the coming year. There is a remedy to stop the murders, but the women refuse to listen to the good advice. All they have to do is stop having sex until they marry, or at least use protection to help reduce the problem, but the women refuse to participate in either solution. What is one to think about women according to these statistics. The number one answer is the survey taken was this:
I don’t think murder is wrong and I think it is my choice alone whether to murder or not.
If you think this is silly or stupid; it’s not.
The approved length of pregnancy has just be denounced by the recent birth of a living, breathing, viable baby that is younger than this mystical age set by government. What say now? It is murder and that is the truth. You can take God out of the equation and you still get the same results.
But, for one minute, think about this. What if there is a God, how do you think He would feel about abortion?
Some people are born gamblers, I was not. I would much prefer to live my life believing there is a God, and finding out that there is not; then to live my life as if there was no God, to find out that there is.

And, by the way, I am glad your mother did not decide to abort you, even though you disagree with me. I wish you a happy and fulfilled life. Happy Easter.

  13. marty says:

m…great post. I totally was off base on question #1, but was pretty much on target with question #2. Thanks for enlightening us. You make a great arquement for why not to abort.

  14. ladyconklin says:

Sounds to me like chiggers good use a reality check, or apparently chooses to walk around with blinders on. How sad for chiggers. It’s a huge world out there, and they are missing out on a whole lot of it. Like an ostrich with it’s head in the sand. I’m glad my Mom kept me and so is my child. It’s not our choice to decide when a life should end. We do however have the choice to be responsible for what we do with that life and how we treat others. Hope you have better luck in the future with relationships and with life in general, as it appears this one isn’t taking you very far.

  15. Seiph Harbour says:

Very nice, Neil! Use that Beethoven argument. It complete rubbish, by the way. Beethoven was the *eldest* in the family (after a female sibling died in infancy, which was common in those days) and the mother did *not* have syphilus – she had tuberculosis, also common in those days.

Aside from that, your argument is comically irrelevant. “We dare not abort any fetus because it may grow up to contribute some of humanities greatest treasures!” By the same logic, we might have also aborted Ghengis Khan, Adolph Hitler and Pol Pot.

But what really amuses me is that these self-righteous prigs who deign to impose their “morality” upon the rest of us must resort to *lies* in order to support their argument. Does anyone else see the comical hypocrisy?

  16. Neil says:

Hi Seiph & Co. – These are simple illustrations showing that the unborn are human beings worthy of protection.

As always, the only question is, “What is the unborn?” If it is not a human being, then no justification for abortion is necessary. If it is a human being, then no justification is sufficient (except to save the life of the mother, of course, which is in concert with the pro-life ethic).

If abortions don’t kill an innocent human being then they are a cost effective method of birth control. If they are so much safer than pregnancy (an oft repeated lie of the pro-legalized abortion groups) then they will improve women’s health. So why try to reduce them? Why would they ever be considered “wrong?”

However, if abortions do kill innocent human beings, then there is no excuse for them to be legal.

  17. Neil says:

P.S. The unborn are obviously human beings. One would have to be anti-science to hold any other view –

Most professional pro-lifers concede that point (hard to argue with 4-D ultrasounds and embryology textbooks and maintain your credibility). They just invented the elusive “personhood” argument to try to perpetuate the legalized killing. It fails logically as well.
